There is world class sporting entertainment for holidaymakers coming to Dublin between 19th and 22nd May. The Irish Open Golf Championship is being held in the K Club, Straffan, County Kildare. Its just 50 minutes from Dublin City Centre and parking at the event will be free. The big news is that Danny Willett, 2016 Augusta Masters Champion looks certain to compete. Also the 2015 Irish Open Champion, Soren Kjeldsen, who is in top form and tied for 7th last week in Augusta, is expected to defend his title. The home challenge will be lead by World Number 3, Rory Mcllroy.
The newly married up and coming star, Shane Lowry will be watched carefully by the bookies due to his dramatic progress up the world rankings to number 33. His Hole-In-One last week, at the 16th in Augusta, was really special. Many people feel that Shane could be a ‘dark horse’ to win the tournament. Whatever happens he will have massive home support from the fans.
We visited the course this morning and its in superb condition. The warm and sunny weather this week is really enhancing the preparations for one of Europe’s most highly attended golf tournaments.
If you are a photographer Wednesday is your day. Get close to the players during the Pro-Am. On the European Tour, cameras are not permitted during the competition itself. However mobile phones are permitted every day.
